Appu is a rickshaw driver that took me to a really nice store yesterday. I did not have enough money with me to purchase a pashmina scarf that I really liked so I said I would come back the next day. Appu gave me his card and told me to call him when I wanted to return to the store.
This morning at breakfast I decided to go to Fab India with Caroline. Fab India sells Indian outfits and home decorating items. I tried on one outfit and decided I can't pull off the Indian clothes, I don't have enough style. Our rickshaw driver waited in the parking lot while we shopped. After Fab India we decided to go back to the store Appu took me to. The driver didn't know the store but I new it was near the zoo so he headed to the zoo and asked further directions from other drivers. When we finally find the store Appu is standing in front of the store and immediately sees me. I was horrified. Appu has a strange habit of referring to himself in the third person. He approached me in the jewelry section and told me, "Appu not mad at you, just call Appu next time."
Of course as we walk into the store all the salespeople from yesterday remember me. They gave us tea to sip while they again showed me silk bedding and silk rugs I could never afford even in India. The tea was scalding hot and ridiculously sweet. Indians love sweet. The little bit of New York left in me doesn't allow me to trust strangers easily so I assumed the tea was drugged. I drank it anyway. What's the worst thing that could happen? Appu sells me into the white sex slave trade?
On the ride home the driver wants ot know how much we spent so he can collect a commission from bringing us to the store. I believe Appu and the other driver may have to fight over that commission.
Practice report:
Sharath seemed to spend alot of time sitting in his chair today, I only received one assist and it was from an assistant not Sharath. I was given a crappy spot to practice in, the corner by the door where everyone must pass by to get out. I wasn't able to bind my marchi D with out the magical help of Sharath today. Despite all those negatives, it was still a god practice. I am so grateful to be here.
Food report:
My fav breakfast place is closed on Tuesday so we went to Santosha where I had the worlds best granola and a good fruit salad.
Weather report:
It's been raining hard on and off the past few days. Mostly on when we are out and about and stopping in time to be back in the apartment. The rain keeps the Diwali idiots from blowing off fireworks.
Crazy cleaning lady report:
Haven't seen her since she told on us. The place is getting dirty.
